Hüseyin Bağcı is a Professor of International Relations at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. He received his doctorate in political science from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn in 1988. From 2020 to 2024, he was President of the Turkish Foreign Policy Institute. He was a guest researcher at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in Berlin and a Senior Fellow at the Research Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI) in Bonn and at the National Defence Academy of the Federal Ministry of Defence in Vienna. He is also a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London and the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels. Prof. Bağcı was Anna Maria Schimmel Professor at the University of Bonn in 2007, visiting professor at the Sapienza University of Rome in 2007, at the University of Lublin in 2008, and at the Humboldt University of Berlin from 2010 to 2011. He has also been teaching at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa since 2014. Prof. Bağcı has published several books and numerous articles on Turkish foreign policy and Turkish-German relations. He is a well-known television and radio commentator in Türkiye and is frequently quoted in national and international journals.
